Coppernose bluegill grow larger and faster than native bluegill, but thrive best in warmer water temperatures. In fact, they tend to see poor results and even winter die-offs in areas north of I-40. They also have different coloration. Stocking both native and coppernose bluegill together can strengthen bluegill genetics in a pond. Adults typically reach 6-10” in length or greater.
